Brunello di Montalcino Castello Romitorio 2018

€ 81.00

{{Price Info 1}}

The Brunello di Montalcino Castello Romitorio is our pride: the result of more than thirty years of work in harmony with nature in the terroir of Montalcino. The Romitorio estate is located in the northwest quadrant of Montalcino where this classic Brunello is produced from Sangiovese grapes, sourced from both old and young vines, carefully harvested and hand-selected on the sorting table, before and after destemming. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, with a brief initial cold maceration (below 20°C) with the skins for about 15-20 hours, followed by a higher temperature controlled maceration that can last up to 20 days. Malolactic fermentation begins naturally and lasts for about 10 days before the wine is allowed to rest to separate it from the sediment.
The wine matures in oak for about 24 months and after bottling is aged in the temperature-controlled cellars of Castello Romitorio before being released for sale.
There is something intoxicating and invigorating about this wine: a high nose of oak and fruit with hints of sour cherries, violets, and pomegranate.
There are also suggestions of earth and, with aging, nuances of sage and soy. The tannins are deeply woven into the body, firm yet fine, giving this wine an exceptional structure, a skeleton from which the fruit, oak, and aromas can fully express themselves. The wine unfolds slowly in the glass, becoming more sinuous and sensual when in contact with air,
the slight astringency of the tannins invites further sips. The aging in bottle brings pleasant tertiary notes of leather and herbs, the persistence and aroma are lasting. This wine makes an impression as soon as it is released, but becomes even truer to itself as it ages.

Brunello di Montalcino Castello Romitorio Riserva 2015

€ 222.80

{{Price Info}}

Only a truly exceptional vintage can give life to the Brunello di Montalcino Riserva from Castello Romitorio. Since its foundation in 1984, Castello Romitorio has produced only 10 vintages of this precious wine. The rigorous selection of grapes destined for the reserve takes place among the oldest vines located in the northern area of Montalcino. Each single segment of vineyard is monitored throughout the entire vegetative development, and the most suitable sections are then chosen, whose vines are cared for with extreme attention to ensure that the fruit reaches optimal ripeness.
The harvest is done manually, as is the selection of the best grapes, which is carried out before and after destemming. The wine ferments in stainless steel with an initial cold maceration (below 20° C) on the skins for about 15-20 hours. This process is followed by up to 24 days of maceration at a higher controlled temperature.
Malolactic fermentation starts naturally and lasts for about 10 days, before the must is rested for sedimentation.
The wine matures in wood for about 36 months and, after being bottled, is kept at controlled temperatures in the cellar of Castello Romitorio until its market release.
This wine maintains a consistency that is both astonishing and disarming from one vintage to another. As a Riserva, it has already had all the time to become itself, to show its sincere soul: we find difficult soils, icy winters, and warm sun, we find wild nature and something epic that the years cannot obscure or alter. It is strong and muscular. This wine is, and that’s it. The warmth of the alcohol contrasts with the pronounced acidity, the tannins, indissoluble and resolute, retain their inflexible aftertaste. Dried notes of sour cherries still linger. With aging, the more savory notes increase: of salt, of herbs, of earth. For me, all this means only one thing: sincerity.

Morellino di Scansano Ghiaccioforte

€ 30.30

{{Price Info}}

Ghiaccio Forte represents the dedication of Sandro and Filippo Chia to the local tradition of cultivating Sangiovese on the hills of Morellino di Scansano. The deep passion and knowledge of this grape variety, combined with the constant pursuit of quality, have produced a particular expression of Morellino di Scansano, an authentic daughter of its terroir.

The vineyards, planted on the steep slopes of the Monti Aquilaia and the gentle hills of the Valle dell'Albegna, are located at the southernmost point of the denomination, overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

The yields are extremely low, and each vineyard is harvested at the point of optimal ripeness, vinified separately to respect the peculiar characteristics of each plot. The grapes are carefully selected and hand destemmed before being gently transported to stainless steel tanks. The wine macerates on the skins for about two weeks before soft pressing, then undergoes malolactic fermentation in stainless steel tanks. The result is a concentrated yet silky Morellino di Scansano, with a translucent color, that carries the characteristic traits of a Sangiovese pure expression of its terroir.

Hilly. The vineyards that develop in the hilly areas draw nourishment from soils with a skeleton content above 30%. These soils are clayey-silty but with sand content above 30%, thus well-draining. Calcium is found in large quantities, and the soil is very rich in minerals.

Fluvial. The vineyards that rise at the foot of the Ghiaccio Forte hill, along the course of the Albegna river, sink their roots into clayey-silty soils with a sand percentage around 30%. The soil is very rich in minerals, particularly calcium, and has a good amount of skeleton, about 10%.

ROMITORIO is the symbol of vision and continuous exploration of excellence with non-native grape varieties in Tuscany.
A modern Super Tuscan full of energy that combines an opulent character with elegance and persistence. This wine is for those who seek a wine with personality and excellent drinkability.
The vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by a period of aging in concrete before being transferred to bottle.
The fruit takes center stage: the sour cherry meets the ripe plum in a complex, bold, and full-bodied profile. The palate distinctly perceives the fruit, freshness, and a moderate body:
tannins are evident, but well balanced by fruity notes that reach a sweetness of vanilla and mocha, softening the intense and full body. The finish is warm and round, a burst of great fruity exuberance that retains its vitality even after several years.

The Colorino grapes are carefully selected by the two producers Ascione and Alongi and after vinification, they mature for 8 months in cement and steel.
The Ascione-Alongi Colorino is decidedly intense and distinctive. It showcases notes of spice, dark and fresh fruit, and almost inky tones typical of the grape variety, but always with maximum lightness and drinkability. A great interpretation of the Tuscan tradition.

- BOLGHERI DOC ROSSO
Produced with the same passion and attention to detail reserved for Ornellaia, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia is a true “second vin”. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot, which combines immediate pleasantness and taste-olfactory complexity with a proven aging potential.
TASTING NOTES FROM THE WINEMAKER
44% Merlot, 30% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cabernet Franc, 13% Petit Verdot Alc. : 14.5 % vol.
“Of intense ruby red color, with purple reflections, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia 2022 reveals without shyness an evident and generous aromatic expression, characterized by aromas of ripe red fruits. On the palate, the wine is soft, round, and enveloping, yet at the same time full-bodied and substantial, showing great balance between structure, fullness, and elegance.”
VINIFICATION AND AGING
The harvest was done by hand in 15 kg boxes, and the bunches were selected on a double sorting table before and after destemming and subjected to a gentle pressing at the end. Since 2016, in addition to manual selection, optical selection has been introduced to further enhance the quality of the selection. Each variety and each parcel was vinified separately. The alcoholic fermentation took place partly in stainless steel tanks and partly in concrete tanks, at temperatures between 22-28°C for two weeks, followed by maceration of about 10-15 days. The malolactic fermentation took place in steel tanks, and subsequently, the wines were transferred to barriques (25% new and 75% second passage). The wine remained in barriques in the Ornellaia cellar at controlled temperature for about 15 months. After the first 12 months, blending was done and then reintroduced into the barriques where it spent another 3 months. The wine remains in the bottle for six months before being released on the market.

On the palate, the wine is well balanced in all its components, managing to combine a smooth and soft tannic structure with an acidic freshness that gives crunchiness and pleasantness to the wine.”
VINIFICATION AND AGING
The vinification was done separately in small steel tanks, respecting the different varietal characteristics during the fermentation phases. After alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation followed, also in steel tanks. The aging phase lasted 10 months, partly in barriques previously used for Ornellaia, and the other part in cement tanks, to achieve a perfect balance between tannic structure and fruity expression.

Tenuta Calimaia
Located in a historic area for the production of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and considered one of the most suitable, Calimaia rests on the gentle hills between the Val di Chiana and the Val d’Orcia. The vineyards surrounding the estate hill enjoy an altitude of 300 meters above sea level and vary in exposure and soil type, thus enhancing each cultivated grape variety.
Variety: 90% Sangiovese, locally known as Prugnolo gentile, and 10% complementary red grape varieties Alcohol Content: 14.5%
Aging: 24 months in oak barrels
Vinification and aging
Once hand-harvested, the grapes were vinified in stainless steel tanks at controlled temperature (max 26°C) and fermentation was conducted spontaneously. The maceration on the skins allowed for a perfect extraction of polyphenolic substances, aided by frequent pump-overs in the initial stages of fermentation, interrupted by a “delestage” in the intermediate phase, and then resumed in the final phase. Malolactic fermentation was completed in steel before winter. The aging in 50 hL oak barrels lasted as usual for 24 months. Before being released on the market, Calimaia underwent bottle aging in our cellar for the subsequent 4 months.
Tasting notes
Tenuta Calimaia Vino Nobile di Montepulciano appears in the glass with an intense ruby red color. On the nose, it offers evident notes of red fruits: cherry and sour cherry at the outset, followed by intense notes of aromatic herbs and spices, including sage, cardamom, and pink pepper. In the final olfactory notes, dark chocolate is accompanied by hints of licorice. On the palate, it begins with its generous, voluminous body while remaining fresh at the same time. The tannic texture is dense and free of harshness. The flavor-aroma correspondence is remarkable, and the intense aromatic persistence is very long.

It is a pure Merlot that takes its name from a small stream that flows near the estate. When in 1994 Rita and Virgilio removed two barriques of Merlot from production, they perhaps did not think they had created what would become an international cult wine.
From those vineyards planted in 1988, in the heart of the estate on a slight slope, an exceptional fruit was born. Their location, the composition of the soils, and the microclimate in their combination gave life to this unique wine.

Poggioargentiera Maremmante 2021

€ 19.00

Cabernet Franc, Syrah from the Maremma d.o.c.
“Maremmante” already carries in its name the desire to express the essence of the Maremma land. The Poggio Argentiera winery chose to produce this red wine by maturing it only in steel, in order to preserve its territorial and varietal expressiveness to the maximum. The goal is to savor a piece of Maremma starting from international grape varieties in an environment with strong territorial characteristics. The winery is located in the province of Grosseto and consists of 20 hectares of vineyards, divided into the two Poderi Adua and Keeling. The particularities of the soils and the exposures allow for the production of optimal raw materials that, if treated with the right respect, can offer expressive and quality wines. For this reason, the winery operates according to a method of organic farming and is concerned with safeguarding the existing balance between the vine and the terroir.
Poggio Argentiera “Maremmante” is a blend of Cabernet Franc and Syrah varieties. These grapes come from vineyards located in the Baccinello area, with soils rich in alluvial pebbles and a prevalence of clayey limestone, and from the Alberese area, whose soils are characterized by the presence of sand and silt. The harvest is done manually using crates. The maceration phase lasts for two weeks and takes place in temperature-controlled steel containers, as does fermentation and maturation.
The “Maremmante” red from Poggio Argentiera has a ruby red color, brightened by purple reflections. The nose is defined by dark notes ranging from blackberry to blueberry and from licorice to black pepper, all set against an intriguing backdrop of Mediterranean scrub. On the palate, the softness and structure balance very well with the freshness and tannic profile, defining a balanced and pleasant sip. “Maremmante” is a sincere and everyday wine that delights the palate on any occasion.
Color Ruby red
Aroma Fragrant aromas of forest fruits, violets, cherries, and Mediterranean herbs
Taste Fresh, juicy, and flavorful, with a pronounced tannin

100% Ciliegiolo from Maremma
The Ciliegiolo from Poggio Argentiera represents a soft and juicy expression of this black grape variety that provides excellent quality results in Maremma Toscana. Some hypotheses trace the origin of Ciliegiolo to Spain, from where it was introduced to Italy in 1870 by some pilgrims returning from Santiago de Compostela. Other more accredited theories suggest that Ciliegiolo is even a parent of the much more famous Sangiovese, with which it is often blended. However, the origin of its name is certain, referring both to the color of the grapes and the intense cherry aromas expressed by the wine. The oenological consultancy of Poggio Argentiera was once entrusted to Antonio Camillo, a master in the vinification of Ciliegiolo who charted the path to follow.
Poggio Argentiera Ciliegiolo is a pure expression of the eponymous black grape variety cultivated according to integrated pest management principles in the Banditella area of Alberese, in the Grosseto Maremma. The vines benefit from the typically Mediterranean climate of the Tyrrhenian coast and the loamy and sandy matrix of the soils. After the harvest, the red vinification of the grapes takes place with alcoholic fermentation in stainless steel tanks in contact with the skins. The subsequent maturation period, which lasts for several months, also takes place in steel.
The Ciliegiolo from the Poggio Argentiera winery has a lively ruby red color. The olfactory panorama is intense and rich, defined by aromas of red-fleshed fruit that meet slightly spicy notes. The tasting highlights pleasant softness and juicy freshness in a balanced combination with long persistence of the fruity sensations perceived on the nose.
Color Lively ruby red
Aroma Intense, rich, notes of ripe red-fleshed fruit meet light spices

Riecine "La Gioia" 2020 i.g.t.

€ 92.40

Only the best grapes selected from all the vineyards of Riecine are used in La Gioia.
A meticulous selection in the field is followed by a double sorting in the cellar.
First, the bunches are checked one by one on a vibrating sorting table, then
destemmed, and finally the berries are checked again before being transferred into
unlined concrete vats Nomblot and French oak truncated cone vats Grenier.
Fermentation begins 4-5 days after the grapes enter the vats, and the must
is kept at a controlled temperature to promote cryomaceration also
with the help of dry ice. Generally, the fermentation activity lasts
for 14-15 days, after which, after a brief submerged cap maceration, the mass
is racked into tonneaux, 33% new, 33% second passage, and 33% third passage, for 24 months.
At the end of the aging phase in wood, the lots are blended to compose
the final mass. This is transferred into unlined concrete vats, where it
will spend another 3 months for tartaric stabilization and natural clarification,
before being bottled. In the aging room, away from light
and vibrations and protected from sudden temperature changes, the
bottles rest for at least 6 months before being marketed

Grapes: cabernet sauvignon 38%, cabernet franc 22%, merlot 19%, syrah 15%, petit verdot 6%
BOLGHERI ROSSO DOC “IL BRUCIATO” 2022 - TENUTA GUADO AL TASSO, ANTINORI: WHY WE LIKE IT

Il Bruciato is the younger brother of "Guado al Tasso", a Bolgheri of great intensity characterized by a modern and harmonious style. A red wine that comes from those vineyards of the Estate that do not represent the peak necessary for the production of Guado al Tasso, plots where the management of the plant is still aimed at maximizing quality. Its maturation takes place for at least 8 months in barrique and for at least 4 months in bottle: it results in a wine of great intensity and softness, a perfect business card for the denomination and the Estate.

TASTING NOTES

Dark ruby red, with slight violet hues. The nose is dominated by intense notes of ripe red fruits, followed by pleasant hints of sweet spices. On the palate, the wine is balanced, harmonious, and enveloping, characterized by a sinuous and enveloping tannic structure. A very pleasant wine to drink.
