This second wine from the prestigious Château Cos d’Estournel comes from the younger vines of the estate. The young vines, aged between 5 and 20 years, are cultivated with the same care as the older vines. Powerful, enveloping, intensely aromatic, and extremely persistent on the palate: Les Pagodes de Cos is a wine of great elegance. The Last Warrior 2021 Silver Heights - Est Helan Mountain - Ningxia Region CHINA

€ 33.80

Silver Heights - Est Helan Mountain - Ningxia Region
Biodynamic Cabernet Sauvignon.
Silver Heights represents a new horizon for the wine world. It is, in fact, a Chinese estate located in the Ningxia region. Its origins date back to 1997, when Gao Lin began cultivating vines in these lands, which had particularly favorable pedoclimatic conditions for viticulture. In the following year, he undertook a series of trips to France and Germany to study and expand his knowledge of new trends and techniques practiced in Europe. His daughter refined her technical preparation with oenological studies in Bordeaux, where she also worked at Château Calon Ségur, before completing her knowledge with a series of visits to the main wine regions of old Europe, before returning home with a valuable baggage of experiences.

The new generation has consolidated the company, making it one of the most important high-end estates in the country. It quickly stood out in the Chinese landscape thanks to a wealth of knowledge from the best European domaines. Today, the property has a comprehensive area of about fifty hectares, which are cultivated following the principles of biodynamics. A choice based on respect for the environment, allowing only the use of natural substances. In the vineyard, sulfur copper, horn manure, horn silica, and other preparations based on herbal infusions are used, which make the plants stronger and more resistant to diseases. All inter-row work and grass cutting are done mechanically, promoting the practice of green manuring to make the soils more fertile in an absolutely natural way and without fertilization.
Of course, the same production philosophy applies to the winery, with absolute attention and respect for raw materials, to maximize the varietal aromas of the grapes and the character of the terroir. The vinifications are carried out with spontaneous fermentations and the use of indigenous yeasts. The aging follows the great French tradition, both for whites, often inspired by the great Burgundy school, and for reds, which instead refer to Bordeaux models based on Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.

This region, protected by the Andes and close to the Pacific Ocean, offers a unique environment that promotes the production of superior quality wines.
Chile offers an endless variety of ideal conditions for winemaking. The unique geological characteristics, altitude, and climate combine to create a unique environment for viticulture. The Las Condes winery, founded in the late 1990s, takes advantage of these unique variables to produce excellent wines.

With 600 hectares of land, Las Condes is one of the largest wineries in Chile. Environmental awareness is fundamental, and since 2012, the company has embraced organic farming for all its vineyards.

The plots, diverse in latitude, climate, altitude, and geology, offer a diversified range of terroir. The cooler areas, such as Casablanca, are dedicated to the cultivation of whites, while the more temperate regions, such as Colchagua, are ideal for red varieties, such as Carmenère.

The grape varieties cultivated by Veramonte embrace both classic international varieties and indigenous ones, such as Carmenère, which reflects the authenticity and tradition of Chile.

The Carmenère from the Las Condes winery is the jewel of the production, obtained from carefully cultivated Carmenère grapes in the vineyards of the Maule Valley, in the heart of Chile. Artisanal Winemaking: The manual harvest occurs when the grapes reach perfect ripeness. The winemaking takes place in temperature-controlled steel tanks, where the grapes macerate for at least two weeks. The wine then ages for at least twelve months in French oak barrels. After blending and bottling, the wine rests in the cellar before being ready for the market.

Sensory Experience: Of a captivating ruby red color, the Carmenère Las Condes offers delicate aromas of red fruit, such as cherry, blueberry, and blackberry, accompanied by notes of sweet spices and hints of leather. On the palate, it is well-structured, harmonious, and fresh, with perfectly integrated velvety tannins. The long and persistent finish leaves an unforgettable impression.

We are located in Cesset in the Appellation of Saint-Pourcain, in the northern area of Auvergne, where the soils become less volcanic and have a greater presence of clay, silt, and limestone. In this area, there is a geological and stylistic shift (in terms of winemaking) towards a matrix typical of the nearby Burgundy, with which it shares the main cultivated grape varieties: Pinot Noir, Gamay, and Chardonnay, with the exception of Tressallier being the only indigenous white grape.

Here Brian Barbara, son of Denis Barbara (owner and founder of Domaine Grosbot-Barbara), took over in 2020 a Domaine originating from the late 1800s and then abandoned in the early 2000s, founding the “Domaine Clos de Breuilly” where he decided to produce simple, clean, and transparent wines, showcasing the true soul of an area rich in history and tradition.

Le Cerf Volant Rouge is a blend of Pinot Noir and Gamay from young vines of about 20 years located in two different plots in Breux and Les Burliers.
A bold, juicy, crunchy, and fun wine, simple and free despite the millimetric precision that characterizes Brian's hand. The Pinot Noir brings elegance, spice, and vegetal notes, while the Gamay contributes juice, fruit, and straightforwardness.

THE VINTAGE

WEATHER CONDITIONS
The 2016 vintage was marked by contrasting weather conditions: a cold and rainy winter, a wet spring, and a hot and dry summer. A beautiful autumn (Indian summer) favored the perfect ripening of the grapes.
The flowering took place under excellent conditions. From mid-July, temperatures approached the seasonal average, and rainfall was scarce until the veraison. These limiting conditions favored the thickening of the skins and the concentration of polyphenols.
The harvest took place in ideal conditions, with no sanitary pressures: reasonable yield, favorable climate, remarkable quality.
The balance of polyphenolic compounds resulted in powerful yet elegant tannins, with a strong personality.
We carried out rigorous parcel selections and adopted gentle extractions, adapted to each terroir.
Fermentation temperatures were maintained between 27 and 29°C. Maceration times ranged from 19 to 27 days. The devatting was completed at the end of November.

——

HARVEST
The Château Pichon Baron harvest took place from October 3rd to 18th, starting with the Merlots from the plateau from October 3rd to 5th, followed by the early Cabernet Sauvignons on deep gravel in the great terroirs, harvested from October 10th to 18th.

Les Tourelles invites you to an experience of indulgence, charm, roundness, and voluptuousness.
This wine represents a gateway to the spirit of the Pichon Baron estate. It can be enjoyed young or aged in the cellar for over 15 years.

THE VINTAGE

WEATHER CONDITIONS
The 2019 vintage was characterized by a rainy spring and early June, followed by a hot and dry summer. The cool temperatures in spring limited the aggressiveness of downy mildew, and the favorable weather conditions created an environment free from fungal pressure.
The rapid warming of the soil at the end of winter allowed for regular and homogeneous budding, followed by slow growth. However, these cool spring conditions did not favor flowering, causing a moderate coulure (flower drop), except in the earliest terroirs.
The last decade of June brought warm and dry summer conditions, with some rain between late July and early August. The sun and heat stimulated the development of fruity aromas in the Cabernets and the accumulation of polyphenols in the skins.
Water stress during ripening accelerated the accumulation of sugars, the degradation of acids, and increased the phenolic potential of the berries. The tannins also benefited from these conditions.
Veraison began between August 4 and 5 in the early vineyards and concluded quickly by mid-August in a homogeneous manner.
The warm and dry conditions led to exceptional richness of the grapes by mid-September, while the first rains at the end of September made the skins more fragile and accelerated the harvest.
This humidity, welcome and necessary, stabilized the concentration of sugars and allowed us to continue the harvest more serenely. The 2019 vintage was characterized by high alcohol levels and low total acidity (low malic acid).

?

HARVEST
The harvest took place from September 18 to October 11:
