Pinot Grigio La Tunella 2023

€ 27.00

{{Price Info 1}}

The Pinot Grigio, I Classici line, from La Tunella is made from the best selected grapes of the same variety. It undergoes a slow fermentation in stainless steel tanks at strictly controlled temperatures. The maturation continues in stainless steel tanks where a long series of batonnage occurs at a scaled frequency, in order to obtain a complex, structured wine with delicate aromas. Fruity and fragrant, it recalls the crust of warm bread and the intense scent of acacia flowers and ripe tropical fruits. Friulano La Tunella 2023

€ 27.00

The Friulano from La Tunella has a strong character. A straw-yellow wine, with a fruity aroma, savory and with a pleasantly almond-like finish.
Friulano, however, is not the name that was commonly used for this wine and the grape from which it derives until 2007. Starting from that year, in fact, an agreement between Italy and the European Union prohibited the previous use of the term “Tocai,” deemed too similar to the name of the Hungarian wine “Tokaji.”
While the similarity of the two names is true, for completeness it is useful to clarify that Tocai Friulano refers to the grape variety and the wine (white and dry), while the Hungarian Tokaji represents a completely different wine, sweet and made from the vinification of the Furmint, Hárslevelü, and Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains grapes, using a particular technique, and coming from the town of Tokaj.
Returning to Friulano, since 2008 it is no longer possible to call it “Tocai.” However, it is easy to find, on some labels from Collio, the name “Jakot,” deliberately written backward, considered a metaphorical “rebellion” against the European decisions by the producers in the area.
The maturation, always in steel, occurs in contact with the fine lees, to extract unique aromas and flavors. Visually, it presents a bright straw-yellow color, with elegant greenish reflections. On the nose, it is finely harmonious, floral and fruity, with a typical note reminiscent of bitter almond, pear, wildflowers, and acacia. On the palate, it is soft and velvety, moderately acidic, dry, and well-structured. The finish, incredibly persistent, is characterized by the typical and unmistakable scent of bitter almond that enhances the uniqueness of the grape variety.

The "Rjgialla" from the La Tunella winery is a light and fresh Ribolla Gialla. Its aromatic profile is soft, savory, and dry, enriched by fruity variations that include plum, yellow peach, and apple. The Rjgialla from the La Tunella winery is one of the most famous expressions of Ribolla Gialla, a typical grape variety from Friuli Venezia Giulia. For over fifty years, the Tunella winery has passionately worked with these grapes, aiming to enhance their energetic freshness and good aromaticity, embarking on a journey through history, memory, and tradition. The land where this still white wine is born is predominantly hilly, and the subsoil alternates between marls and sandstones. The Ribolla Gialla grapes are hand-harvested towards the end of September, once the right degree of ripeness is reached. Immediately after harvesting, the grapes are destemmed and gently pressed. At this point, the must is added with a fermentation starter, selected and created from the best selected bunches. In steel tanks, fermentation begins at a controlled temperature of 16°C, which will last for about 30-40 days. During this period, the must undergoes a series of bâtonnage to obtain a complex, structured product with delicate aromas. Finally, in February following the harvest, it is bottled and prepared for commercialization, which takes place at the beginning of spring. 'Rjgialla' La Tunella presents itself as bright, with a straw yellow color and elegant greenish reflections. The aroma, thanks to careful winemaking techniques, is elegant and fragrant, with complex notes reminiscent of white flowers and yellow-fleshed fruits, with delicate nuances of dried fruit. A concrete white wine also on the palate, with a light body, fresh and savory. A long and pleasant finish, with slightly aromatic notes, fully reflecting the characteristic of this blend. The delicacy and freshness of the white “Rjgialla” go hand in hand with cold appetizers and sweet and sour sauces, vegetables, and fish dishes.

Since the date of the first bottling, which took place in that very year, Vie di Romans has made giant strides, with a progressive cycle of viticultural modernization, the realization of the new winery, the vinification of grapes distinguished by their origin cru, and the choice to market white wines only two years after the harvest. In particular, the care of the precious factors of diversity of each vineyard has allowed Vie di Romans to deepen the particular interaction between grape variety and terroir that has naturally developed over time.
The vineyards owned by Vie di Romans are situated on particularly fertile and well-draining soils, characterized by typical colluvium formed from clays resulting from the superficial erosion of the morainic slopes: in this extraordinary territory, equidistant from the sea and the first slopes of the Alps, the Chardonnay Vie di Romans is produced in Mariano del Friuli. Of broad intensity and fresh, with a good alcohol content, this Chardonnay boasts very high aging potential, with an evolutionary peak that settles around 8 years of age.

Notes of exotic fruit, yellow peach, citrus zest, and elderflower enliven a full, fresh, and savory tasting experience, with excellent and clear expressiveness. The renowned semi-aromatic French grape variety is among the international ones that best expresses itself in the Friulian lands and is certainly one of the most loved for its characteristic scents and aromas. The climate, with Mediterranean nuances, mild and breezy, allows the Sauvignon to ripen perfectly and to produce a white wine of great drinking pleasure, intense and broad. Its authentic territorial connotation is one of its strengths, enhancing its typicity. The white Sauvignon “Piere” is the result of a bet that the Vie di Romans winery wanted to make on the Friulian territory of Isonzo, highlighting its vocation for the cultivation of both native and international varieties historically present in the region. The grapes come from the Piere vineyard, located in the Isonzo Rive Alte area, within the municipality of Mariano del Friuli. The Sauvignon Blanc vines are about fifteen years old and were planted with Italian clones of loose clusters. The plot covers approximately 12 hectares and is situated at an altitude of 33 meters above sea level, with a north-south exposure and soils composed of siliceous clays, conglomerates, and abundant skeleton. The harvest takes place towards the end of August, and the best clusters undergo a cold maceration for a few hours. The wine matures in steel tanks on its own yeasts for nine months and completes aging with ten months in the bottle. The Sauvignon “Piere” Vie di Romans is a label that very well illustrates the personality of the Isonzo area, with wines that are aromatically very ripe and rich, accompanied by a clear freshness. The must obtained is then statically decanted cold and subsequently added with a fermentation starter prepared earlier (3-4 days before) with the best selected grapes of the same variety. It is then subjected to a slow fermentation and aging “sur lies” at a controlled temperature with frequent batonnage in large (30 hl) Slavonian oak barrels. Only after a final appropriate period of rest and aging in the bottle will it be presented for the consumer's judgment.
