Verdicchio Stefano Antonucci 2020

€ 31.50

Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi classico Superiore d.o.c.
“Stefano Antonucci” is the label signed by the protagonist of the Santa Barbara winery: it expresses a completely personal interpretation of Verdicchio and a forward-looking perspective on the potential that the grape holds. The idea of combining wood and varietal is realised in an innovative vinification for the area in question, born out of chance and challenge, much like all experiences outside the norm: passionate about wines, even before being a producer and owner, Stefano focuses on the preservation and development of local grapes through creations with a broader international scope.
“Stefano Antonucci” is a pure Verdicchio produced by the Santa Barbara winery in the heart of the Castelli di Jesi area, in that classic subzone that constitutes the central part of the denomination. The clayey soils of medium texture extend in a strip rich in water, nestled between the Adriatic to the east and the Apennines to the west, above the gentle slopes that reach 250 metres above sea level and benefit from an exposure to the east and south-east. The vines, aged between 25 and 40 years, are hand-harvested, and the grapes, once they arrive at the winery, are pressed directly and gently. The alcoholic fermentation begins in steel tanks, under constant temperature control. After racking, the white wine is transferred to French oak barriques, where it can continue its maturation on the fine lees for a period of 12 months. Once bottled, it rests for an additional 6 months in the cellar before going out to meet the world.
Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi Classico Superiore “Stefano Antonucci” produced by Santa Barbara presents an intense golden yellow colour, with vivid reflections. The nose, intense and sunny, releases a profusion of fruity aromas that directly recall the ripening of yellow pulp and the exotic pleasures of tropical juices, with refreshing bursts of citrus peels and sweet spices. The tasting is consistent with the fruity notes, and the sip reveals itself to be broad and powerful, centred on a smooth softness that finds great balance in an explosive minerality.

Verdicchio di Matelica d.o.c.
The Verdicchio di Matelica signed by La Monacesca is a prestigious white wine from the Marche region with international fame. A medium-intensity product, extremely versatile in the kitchen thanks to a truly inviting drinkability. This characteristic derives from the excellent balance between the fresh component and the minerality typical of the Verdicchio grape, which is noticeable during tasting, a union that promotes a satisfying and balanced sip. A label that can be opened with satisfaction starting from now, but which also has no problem withstanding an additional resting period in glass of 3-4 years, thus guaranteeing excellent reliability for future drinking.
The Verdicchio di Matelica is produced by the La Monacesca winery starting from plots where the age of the vines ranges from 10 to 30 years, located about 400 meters above sea level. Here the terroir is characterized by a mainly clayey subsoil. The must obtained from pressing the grapes ferments for 12-15 days in stainless steel containers, without any addition of sulphur. The wine then matures for 8 months on the lees in steel, and after bottling, continues to refine for another 4 months before being released on the market.
This Verdicchio di Matelica presents itself visually with a typically straw-yellow colour, very intense and concentrated. The olfactory spectrum moves on rich and layered notes, where anise alternates with sensations of fruit, including dried fruit. On the palate, it has good structure, with a harmonious sip that relies on a mineral and fresh texture; it finishes with a medium persistence. A label from the La Monacesca winery well received not only by Verdicchio lovers but also by some of the most important national guides in the sector.

Offida Pecorino d.o.c.g.
The name Ofithe recalls the city of Offida, the capital of the homonymous DOCG. According to legend, this town owes its origins to the goddess Ophis, also known as the goddess of the golden serpent, to whom a temple is dedicated.

Animale Celeste Santa Barbara 2022

€ 26.20

{{Price Info 1}}

White Sauvignon i.g.t.
The Sauvignon “Animale Celeste” is the interpretation of this important international grape variety from the Santa Barbara winery, located in the town of the same name, in the province of Ancona. Stefano Antonucci is the owner of the estate and since 1994 he has set two objectives: to enhance the main indigenous grape varieties of the area (such as Verdicchio dei Castelli di Jesi, Montepulciano, and Lacrima di Morro d’Alba) and to produce labels of international origin using the most well-known grape varieties in the world, such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, and in our case, Sauvignon.
The deep attention to work in the vineyard and respect for the land allows for the production of a taut and smooth “Animale Celeste” Sauvignon Blanc. The vines, which root in a soil tending towards limestone and at an altitude of 350 meters above sea level, are selected through meticulous care to avoid unpleasant issues during processing in the winery. Here, the Sauvignon from Santa Barbara is vinified in steel tanks at controlled temperatures, followed by a maturation period of 5 months.
“Animale Celeste” from the Santa Barbara winery can be considered a typical expression of Sauvignon Blanc, reminiscent of the exuberant aromas of the New World. In addition to the classic notes of the variety, such as tomato leaf, the extraordinary bouquet is further enriched by the vitality and elegance of exotic fruits, such as pineapple and papaya. The aromatic note reminiscent of sage and thyme completes this wonderful aromatic picture with a final brushstroke. The influence of the Adriatic Sea brings a pleasant mineral-salty note that supports the typical freshness of Sauvignon and a softness that allows for a magnetic drinkability.

Mirum La Monacesca 2020

{{Price Info}}

Verdicchio Di Matelica Riserva DOCG
Verdicchio 100%
The Verdicchio di Matelica "Mirum" from the Marche winery La Monacesca is an intense and elegant white wine. It is the Verdicchio that does not see the sea, born in the most internal and cool valley of Matelica. In this territory, it expresses a different character compared to the classic area of Jesi and offers refined floral and herbal aromas, ripe fruit, and a sip characterised by vibrant freshness. The long maturation in steel gives us a rich and evolved white, but with great varietal typicity. A great wine, excellent to drink immediately, but also possessing extraordinary ageing potential.
The white "Mirum" from La Monacesca is one of the most interesting and prestigious versions of Verdicchio di Matelica. The production area constitutes a unique feature in the Marche region. While all valleys descend from the Apennines to the sea along the west-east axis, the valley of Matelica is completely surrounded by mountains and is the only one with a north-south development. The climate is not affected by sea breezes and is of a continental type, with cold winters and strong temperature variations between day and night even in the summer months. The soils were formed by the uplift of an ancient seabed and have proven particularly suitable for the cultivation of Verdicchio. The La Monacesca winery was established in the mid-1960s and today represents one of the fundamental reference points of the territory.
The Verdicchio di Matelica "Mirum" is made from grapes from about 30-year-old vines cultivated in the Contrada Monacesca, on predominantly clayey soils. The bunches are hand-harvested at a slight over-ripening stage. The grapes are pressed gently and the must ferments in steel at a temperature of 20 °C. The wine matures in steel tanks on the fine lees for at least 18 months, undergoing malolactic fermentation and completing the ageing with 6 months in bottle. In the glass, it has a light yellow colour with brilliant reflections. The bouquet expresses aromas of white flowers, ripe fruit, hints of tropical fruit, toasted almond, nuances of star anise, and aromatic herbs of the Mediterranean scrub. The sip is intense and deep, with remarkable taste complexity, which extends towards a tense and vertical finish, of great freshness. The closure is persistent with pleasant savoury and mineral sensations. A great interpreter of Verdicchio, La Monacesca has made a name for itself with wines of intense and complex style, capable of bringing to the forefront the best characteristics of the Matelica territory.
