VIN SANTO DI MONTEPULCIANO Poliziano

€ 92.40

Controlled Designation of Origin
A traditional wine from our families offered as a welcome to guests. The Vin Santo di Montepulciano has a dark amber colour with golden hues, and is slightly opaque. On the nose, it is very intense, with notes of honey, vanilla, and a background of caramel. On the palate, it is sweet and velvety, soft and dense. A refined balance given by the harmonious interaction of sugars, acidity, and volatile aromas, a wine for contemplation.
GRAPES
Malvasia 90-95%, the remainder Grechetto.
AGING
The pressing of the grapes takes place at the end of January using traditional manual presses, after they have been left to dry on cannicci, in the attic, for about 4 months.
Refinement: The must is then placed in small barrels, called caratelli, together with the mother (a precious “ingredient” that each company jealously preserves), for a minimum of 7 years.
PRODUCTION
2,000 bottles

AOC Sauternes, Premier Cru, Bordeaux, France

Château Suduiraut, Premier Cru Classé in 1855, comes from a selection of the most prestigious terroirs of the estate.
This wine, entirely custom-made, reveals extraordinary complexity and great beauty, with a sunny golden colour that turns amber with aging. Of exceptional longevity, it harmoniously and powerfully combines aromas of flowers, fruit, dried and caramelised grapes.

THE VINTAGE

WEATHER CONDITIONS
The 2009 vintage began with a slightly rainier winter compared to the previous year.
Spring was marked by several episodes of rain that required great attention and quick intervention to protect the grapes from diseases.
Flowering took place under a shining sun.
Summer was characterised by periods of intense heat, interspersed with some beneficial thunderstorms, which allowed for the recovery of about 10 days in the vine cycle.
The month of August, very sunny and warm, accelerated ripening, with healthy, homogeneous, and golden grapes before the arrival of botrytis (Botrytis cinerea).

?

HARVEST
The harvest began on 17 September, under a warm and determined sun, with the appearance of the first dried berries, collected during an initial selection.
The rains of 19 and 20 September favoured the development of botrytis, which spread slowly but very evenly.
The arrival of the east wind at the beginning of October initiated sugar concentration and thus the harvest of very concentrated berries, carried out quickly and abundantly — a rare event.
The harvest concluded on 20 October, with a total of three passes (tries) of collection.
